Collegeville, Minnesota
College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University
Visiting Assistant Professor of Education, 1 year appointment The Education Department at the College of Saint Benedict and
Saint John’s University invites applications for a full-time
one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Education beginning Fall
2022. We are seeking a colleague who can teach (a) Ethics in
Human Relations and (b) Human Development and/or Introduction to
Special Education (see ?Responsibilities? below). In the Ethics in
Human Relations course, students use ethical theories to develop
the ability to recognize ethical issues, examine those issues from
multiple perspectives, and articulate reasoned arguments to support
responsible decision making. Areas of applied ethical
analysis include, but are not limited to oppression, racism,
prejudice, discrimination, sexism, homophobia, exceptionality,
ageism and conditions of poverty so as to understand the importance
of diverse perspectives. Focus is on interpersonal values
consciousness in relation to underserved populations and other
oppressed groups in our changing society. In the Human
Development and Introduction to Special Education courses, students
examine how to apply developmental theories to support all
students, including students with exceptionalities.
The Education Department includes 11 Full time faculty and 6
part-time faculty. We offer an Elementary Licensure program with
endorsements, as well as a variety of K-12 and secondary licenses.
Our programs are approved by the Minnesota Professional Educator
Licensing and Standards Board. Our department focuses on the values
of community, training teacher leaders, teacher education as part
of the liberal arts, and training teachers to advocate for
equity.
Together, the College of Saint Benedict, for women, and Saint
John’s University, for men, form a one-of-a-kind partnership of two
top colleges ? combining the abundant opportunities of a larger
university with the small class sizes and personal attention of an
exceptional liberal arts college. They are located in the central
lakes area of Minnesota, surrounded by more than 3,000 acres of
pristine forests, prairies, and lakes. The campuses are minutes
away from Saint Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with
a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St.
Paul. Some CSB/SJU faculty and staff choose to reside locally,
while others commute from the Twin Cities. Both St. Cloud and the
Twin Cities offer a wide range of fine arts, cultural, dining,
recreational, and sporting opportunities.
CSB/SJU are Catholic colleges in the Benedictine tradition
enlivened by values of community, hospitality, stewardship, and
justice. The schools are dedicated to cultivating an equitable,
inclusive community founded on respect for all persons. Students,
staff and faculty from many diverse belief systems and backgrounds
collectively bring a rich dimension to the academic, cultural, and
religious experience at CSB/SJU. We welcome faculty who devote
themselves with passion and integrity to their disciplines and to a
transformative education of their students.
With a total enrollment of approximately 3,000 students,
faculty members develop relationships with students in small
classroom settings and have opportunities to work closely with
students on research projects, experiential learning experiences,
and study abroad programs. Recent initiatives to create a dynamic
general education curriculum and to develop plans for a new
teaching and learning center demonstrate strong institutional
support for faculty development. For further information,
