The Job The Senior Director of Institutional Giving (SDIG) will be a key partner to the Chief Advancement Officer and the institutional giving team’s Associate Director of Development, a leader on the Strategic Advancement team, and a member of the organization’s Senior Management Team. The SDIG will provide strategic leadership in service of OppNet’s organizational health and ambitious future, helping OppNet achieve its current $10.3M budget in FY22 by driving an aggressive revenue plan for all institutional giving (~$5M this year).
The SDIG will oversee a team of three full-time staff–the Associate Director of Development, who is a direct-report and who manages two Development Managers as well as a contracted grant writer-dedicated to maintaining and growing revenue from institutional donors, including private foundations, corporations with grantmaking programs, and formalized family foundations. The SDIG will be responsible for helping the team manage and build OppNet’s pipeline of engaged donors by implementing successful cultivation and stewardship strategies with compelling cases for support, grounded in strong research and relationship-building, to support OppNet’s annual and long-range goals.
This job requires strong skills in revenue planning and generation and savvy relationship development, as well as the ability to lead and mentor a high-performing team toward their professional goals while designing and overseeing effective systems across the team, leadership, program teams, finance, etc.

The Person The ideal candidate will possess maturity and discretion, organization and attention to detail, energy, and initiative, the ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks on time, and a willingness to work on a wide range of assignments.

Responsibilities Institutional Giving – 85%

• Oversee and support the team managing OppNet’s portfolio of 50+ institutional relationships throughout the entire cycle of identification, research, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, site visits, and stewardship of all prospects and new donors
• Lead OppNet’s institutional giving team with strong cohesion, communication, and systems toward success in individual job functions and revenue performance, coaching for professional growth and development, and engendering trust
• Work with the team, organizational leadership, finance, and program staff to develop and refine compelling cases for support that are aligned to OppNet’s vision, programming, and impact goals and supported by program data, financial budgets, and landscape analysis
• Grow base of funding partners by strategically deploying strong prospect research alongside OppNet’s growth plan, and, where possible, engagement of external stakeholders, including the Board, current funding partners, peer organizations, etc., in critical network activation and introductions to new institutional prospects
• Oversee strategy and support preparation for all site visits and meetings with the team and organizational leadership
• Oversee and contribute to the team’s capacity to meet all deadlines and submissions of all LOIs, proposals, reports, etc. with quality, accuracy, and timeliness
• Oversee and support the team’s liaising with program and other staff to ensure timely and accurate sharing of data and information relating to programming, operations, and other initiatives for communication to funders
• Oversee and contribute to the research and preparation of donor profiles and evaluate alignment to OppNet and subsequent cultivation strategy
• Work across the team and organization to help design and improve systems to ensure successful adherence to grant and restricted giving agreements
• Oversee and help architect the team’s evolving processes and systems management that will support high-quality fundraising, as well as the back-end data analysis, budgets, and reporting to drive decision-making, formulate annual and multi-year goals and projections, and provide accurate and timely pipeline and revenue reports and forecasts
• Track trends in philanthropy and monitor giving to like-minded organizations

Learning, Development, and Reflection – 15%

• Engage in quarterly reflection meetings with the team to analyze outreach efforts, strategy, and impact
• Identify and champion skills- and leadership-based professional development opportunities for self and team members’ continued performance and growth in alignment with OppNet’s resources and advancement
• Attend and contribute to regular team and department meetings, bi-weekly organization-wide All Hands meetings, quarterly All Staff meetings, and annual institution-wide retreat
• Meaningfully participate in organization-wide DE&I learning sessions, equity working groups, and optional identity-based affinity groups
• Develop own role- and person-specific intentions as they relate to OppNet’s DE&I commitment, incorporated into annual performance reviews

What Success in this Role Looks Like

• You meet or exceed annual revenue goals for renewals and new funders to support and drive our soon-to-be launched strategic plan
• You provide coaching and support to your direct reports supporting their skill building and leadership development, including the strong management of their team of direct reports
• You collaboratively design and strengthen critical systems for liaising with finance to ensure accurate and efficient budget and grants management
• Build strong partnership with OppNet’s decision science and program staff
