Join an exciting and growing data science team in performing complex data analysis of aviation data. As modern aircraft produce increasing amounts of data in operations and maintenance, analytics transforms that data into insights to improve performance, enable smarter services, and increase productivity. As a member of the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Engineering Analytics team, the candidate will work with a group of data scientists to analyze data and provide advanced analytics technologies. This work includes development, adaptation, and maturation of analytics capabilities for a wide range of applications across BGS business and engineering work streams affecting Boeing products and services.

The BGS Data Sciences team is looking to hire a Experienced Data Scientist with knowledge in fields such as machine learning techniques, advanced statistics, data engineering, and experienced with development of end-to-end analytics solutions. This position is in Seattle, WA.

These skills will be used to solve challenging problems focused on delivering decision support capabilities to business and engineering work streams. This position will support customers in a variety of areas such as Managed Programs (CSP, REP, IMM, etc.), Modifications, and Training Services to imbue their work streams with data-driven insights by integrating technical and business data systems and helping to build longer term engagement plans.

They will be responsible for individual projects wherein they determine, define, and deploy data analytics to meet business objectives, investigate and apply best fit methods and algorithms, validate results, and perform necessary data preparation and enhancements to models. This candidate will be expected to perform with general autonomy to solve problems, however they will be mentored and guided by senior technical leads.

Position Responsibilities:

• Modifies and analyzes complex data sets using analytics techniques such as machine learning, statistical analysis, mathematical optimization and simulation
• Identifies modeling attributes and parameters
• Applies algorithms to create descriptive, predictive or prescriptive models to achieve analysis and project deliverables
• Investigates data characteristics, complexity, quality, and meaning. Through visualizations and summarizations, defines performance, identifies trends, outliers, and drivers
• Prepares data for analysis, e.g. cleansing, conditioning, transforming, handling missing fields, identifying new feature variables and handling multi-variate data
• Identifies best-fit data science methodology (statistics, machine learning, optimization, simulation) given the data and business applications
• Performs procedures in evaluation and validation of correctness of complex models and end-to-end deployment solutions
• Develops analysis requirements given business objectives; determining decision support needs, data and performance requirements, and fit-for-purpose solutions
• Monitors production and deployment with client teams
• Determines decision support visualizations and reports, algorithms, models, dashboard, and tool documentation and training requirements

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• 3+ years of experience in SQL
• 3+ years of experience in either R or Python
• 1+ years of experience supporting Supply Chain, Managed Programs, or other Services business teams or domains

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• 1+ years of experience in cloud technology (preferably Azure or GCP)
• Experience working with engineering teams and data
• Experience in developing end-to-end analytics solutions
• Experience with engineering or airline operations

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
