The University Advancement Division invites applications for an Assistant Director of Annual Giving. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the personal cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors, specifically focusing on reunion and class leader fundraising initiatives, student philanthropy, and text message and video communications. This position works very closely with volunteer leadership and partners with other Advancement staff to solicit contributions from and increase engagement of Ohio Wesleyan alumni. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to directly solicit gifts, work with volunteers, and to handle confidential information with discretion. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, be highly motivated, and take a proactive approach to their work.

Our current work environment is hybrid – with several days on campus, which allow us to stay connected to students and our mission, and several days of remote work each week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reunion/Class Management (65%):

• In partnership with Alumni Relations, recruit, train, and manage fundraising volunteers for five class reunion programs and approximately 21 non-reunion classes.
• Support reunion and class volunteers through completion of peer-to-peer solicitations and other assignments.
• Develop fundraising goals and strategies to realize both leadership gifts and increased donor participation for the Annual Giving Program.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and potential donors to the Annual Giving Program by engaging prospects in a variety of media (face-to-face, virtual, phone, in writing). A minimum of 65 meetings is expected, in addition to phone calls.

Student Philanthropy (20%):

• Develops and implements student philanthropy education program, in partnership with annual giving intern and student organizations (i.e. Senior Class OWUSAA and Ohio Wesleyan Student Alumni Association), to build an understanding of philanthropy and increase participation in the senior class gift.

Text Message and Video/Other (15%):

• In partnership with University Advancement colleagues, develops and administers text message solicitation and video communications strategies as part of the comprehensive annual giving communications plan.
• Effectively communicate the results of contacts to colleagues as appropriate and utilize Raiser’s Edge to document call/meeting reports and other relevant information.

STARTING QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
• One to three years of related experience preferred, preferably in higher education fundraising or related industry.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Driven self-starter, skilled at multi-tasking with strong organization skills.
• Must possess the ability to interact well with diverse personalities through e-mail, phone, and in person.
• Ability to articulate the value of a liberal arts education at Ohio Wesleyan and the importance of philanthropy.
• Willing and able to accommodate occasional travel via automobile and occasional evening/weekend commitments.

FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO SUCCESS:

• Previous experience with Raiser’s Edge or other Blackbaud database system.
• Familiarity with Ohio Wesleyan University or other liberal arts institutions a plus.
